Left Ventricular Assist Device

E-chocardiography Journal: Alphabetical List / Chronological List / Images / Home Page

This old left ventricular assist device (LVAD) was an implanted pump that received blood from a cannula in the left ventricular apex and pumped it to the ascending aorta. The transesophageal echo images below show the tip of the cannula in the left ventricular apex. The aortic valve remains closed throughout the cardiac cycle.
