The late systolic prolapse on M-Mode in the parasternal window remains a reliable diagnostic sign. Some 2D images are also unequivocal.
Mid to late systolic mitral insufficiency can be clearly shown using color M-Mode to demonstrate the timing in relation to the electrocardiographic R waves and to M-Mode mitral leaflet motion.
