Pericardial Diverticulum or Cyst

E-chocardiography Journal: Alphabetical List / Chronological List / Images / Home Page

Diverticulum of the pericardium was described by Bristowe (Transactions Pathological Society, vol xx, London, 1869). A 47 year old woman had a small lobulated flaccid bag continuous with the parietal pericardium. It was the size of a pigeon's egg, projecting into the cellular tissue of the anterior mediastinum. It communicated with the pericardial sac by an ovoid orifice one third of an inch long. It was imperfectly divided interiorly by crescentic folds.
