The sudden death patient may be referred for echocardiographic evaluation to look for indirect evidence of coronary artery disease such as wall motion abnormalities or left ventricular aneurysm. A limited two dimensional parasternal view has been used to screen athletes for aortic valve abnormalities, dilated aortic root, septal hypertrophy and mitral valve prolapse.
